Welcome to June’s Journey’s Wildlife Week!

Detectives, join us in protecting the Himalayas! June’s Journey is participating in the Green Game Jam once again and cordially invites you to play during Wildlife Week. By completing three time-limited events from May 31st to June 6th, 2023, you can collect animal decorations from the Himalayan ecosystem.

If our community of players manages to collect 500,000 animal decorations from the Wildlife Week events, Wooga will donate US $100,000 to the Snow Leopard Trust, our selected organization that works to protect the snow leopard habitat in the Himalayas.

There’s more! If our player community hits the milestone, every player who has collected at least one animal decoration will also get a never-before-seen decoration for free: Horns of the Himalayas!

Wooga will collaborate with Dots.eco, an environmental impact platform that transforms micro casual actions into real-world environmental impact. Dots.eco helps game studios and players take an active part in environmental causes.

What is the Green Game Jam?

The Green Game Jam (GGJ) is an annual initiative by the Playing for the Planet Alliance, where gaming studios are challenged to implement ‟green activations” into their existing games. Each year, these green activations have a common environmental theme and aim to engage players around the world and inspire them to take action for the environment.

This is the third year that Wooga has participated! With roughly 30 gaming studios altogether, all participants in the GGJ are collectively looking to protect three wild ecosystems to help safeguard the lives of harlequin toads in the Amazon, snow leopards in the Himalayas, and manta rays in the Western Indian Ocean for one year.*

*According to Playing for the Planet Alliance, protection for one year is based on all participating studios raising US $1,000,000 collectively. Once this amount is reached, eight of Playing for the Planet Alliance’s supported organizations will have reached their yearly funding goal. If the amount is exceeded, the additional funding will allow us to protect ecosystems and species for longer than one year.

How can I participate?

You can contribute by playing in our three Wildlife Week events between May 31st, 2023 and June 6th, 2023: Detectives Needed, Fairground Fortune, and Sweep the Board. In each event, you have the chance to earn a never-before-seen decoration from the Himalayas. Players need to collect 500,000 decorations altogether to reach the campaign milestone.

How do I know if the milestone was achieved?

We will send an in-game announcement on June 9th, 2023, to let players know if the community achieved the milestone.

Can I donate to the cause directly?

Of course! You can help make a difference with a private donation between May 30th and June 6th. Learn more about the initiative and donate by following this link.

Can I buy the exclusive decorations if the goal is already met?

These decorations will only be available through our time-limited events, and we currently have no plans to offer them for sale, so be sure not to miss them!

Why the Himalayas?

The Himalayas are one of the three ecosystems selected as a part of the Green Game Jam theme.

The Hindu Kush Himalayan region, also known as the ‟Third Pole,” spans South and Southeast Asia and holds massive amounts of snow and ice. The region is the source of major river systems and contains a vital ecosystem that affects 1.4 billion people downstream.

Millions of people in the region who support themselves through tourism, agriculture, and other activities depend on the Himalayan ecosystem. The region doesn’t just support livelihoods; the forests in the Indian Himalayas are also essential for carbon sequestration. These forests absorb an estimated 65 million tons of carbon annually.

Additionally, the region is a biodiversity hotspot with many endemic species such as snow leopards, red pandas, and Tibetan wolves, which all play crucial roles in maintaining the ecosystem’s health and functionality.

What is the Snow Leopard Trust?

The Snow Leopard Trust is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the endangered snow leopard and its mountain ecosystems. Through research, conservation programs, community engagement, and advocacy, they work to protect snow leopards and their habitats.

The trust conducts scientific research, implements community-based initiatives, provides training, and collaborates with partners to raise awareness, secure resources, and promote sustainable practices for snow leopard conservation.

What is Dots.eco?

Dots.eco is a platform that converts digital actions into real-life environmental impact through environmental rewards. They work with various industries to provide over 170 different ways to make a difference. Through these rewards, people can plant trees while playing games, clean ocean plastics while registering to an app, or save baby sea turtles while purchasing a product.

Their environmental impact ranges from activities such as planting trees, clearing plastic from the oceans, preserving land for wildlife, protecting marine areas, and restoring coral reefs, to name a few.

Dots.eco collaborates with vetted and certified environmental organizations that are responsible for carrying out the initiatives, whether it’s planting trees or saving a sea turtle hatchling. They’ve partnered with many accredited NGOs working on the ground in conjunction with local communities.
