Claire's Chronicles is not your regular solitaire game! To follow the trials and tribulations of Claire Heart and make progress through the story, you'll need to solve increasingly complex solitaire puzzles. On top of that, you'll also help Claire spruce up the Heart Estate and the island town of Mystic Bay by expanding and decorating it!
Solitaire gameplay
When you load into a level, you will see three main gameplay elements: the board, the deck, and your hand. To complete the level, match the card in your hand with a card one higher or one lower, until you've cleared all the cards from the board. Use the deck to draw a new card for your hand when needed to find the right card to make a match.
Board
The playing board covers most of the solitaire screen and consists of all the cards that are not in your deck or hand. Every level will look slightly different, with distinct arrangements of cards. Some levels even have level elements that present unique challenges!
These level elements might also be covered by cards on the board. To uncover them, you should match the cards above them with the active one from your hand.
Deck
The deck is a stack of face-down cards. If you can't find any matches with the card currently in your hand, you can get a new card by tapping your deck.
Each level will begin with a different number of cards in the deck, and you might earn additional cards for your deck as you play. Use them wisely!
Drawing a card from the deck also resets your current streak (see below).
Hand
You can find your hand to the right of your deck, on the bottom of your screen. Only the top card of the hand is visible and playable. When you match a card on the board with your hand card, the card you matched becomes your new active hand card.
Basic Card Matching
You advance through the level by matching the card in your hand with a card on the board. To match, a card on the board must be face up and its value must be one step higher or lower than your active hand card. The order of values is A - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - J - Q - K - A. So, if you have an ace in your hand, you could match it with a king (lower) or a 2 (higher).
The card you just matched subsequently becomes your hand card. If there were any face-down cards under the card you just matched with, they will turn face up and become available for matching!
Matching cards also fills the streak meter.
Streaks
While you're playing, there is always an active streak, tracked in a streak meter that you can find at the top right-hand corner of your solitaire screen. You can fill a step in your streak meter by simply matching a card on the board.
Completing a streak can give you currency rewards such as coins, but also additional cards for your deck. If you're lucky, you might even earn a Joker!
However, if you draw a card from your deck, it resets the progress on your current streak.
